What should the next Time / The Week magazine cover story be?

On Friday of the first week of school, you examined the Time and The Week magazine cover pages from May through August. You chose and explained the stories that you found most important as well as most interesting- and, you named the story that had the most personal meaning for you. Then you were asked, based on your awareness of the news of the week what the next magazine cover story should be. Here were your suggestions:

1. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
2. The Ebola Epidemic in West Africa
3. The Beheading of the American Journalist by ISIS Terrorists, and how the US should respond.
4. The Rioting in Ferguson Missouri, and how to prevent future conflict between Police and Civilians
5. The Little League World Series and the Girl Phenom Pitcher from Philadelphia
6. The Military Perspective on going "Back to Iraq"
7. Back to School survey of unique school rules including dress codes
8. Update on Israel v. Gaza
9. Sportsmanship in Pro Sports (ie Johnny Football Flips Off the Redskins)

For national news magazines, the stories need to be of national interest. They should be important and interesting and serve as a case study connected to bigger issues.

Time and The Week have already published this week, and both had cover stories on the Rioting in Ferguson, Missouri (along with features about the ALS Ice-Bucket Challenge).

Today it was reported that the remaining American Journalist who was in captivity was released to United Nations peacekeeping forces in Syria. The news changes daily, and it is the business of national weekly news magazines to sort it all out.

So, what do you think the next cover story for Time or The Week should be?

Once the magazines publish- this discussion should shift over to critiquing the cover stories that were chosen. Did they get it right?
